Stand Out Community of Practice (SOCOP)

Aims:

• Facilitate knowledge exchange and support for Stand Out facilitators.
• Establish a collaborative space for troubleshooting and promoting LGBTQIA+ events.
• Provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
• Ensure the longevity and effectiveness of Stand Out groups through consistent support for school staff.

Outcomes:

• Enhanced support and understanding for LGBTQIA+ youth within participating schools.
• Strengthened professional skills and resources for Stand Out facilitators.
• Increased visibility and celebration of LGBTQIA+ events within the school community.
• Regular evaluation and improvement of Stand Out group effectiveness.

Target Group:

SOCOP is for school staff within the City of Greater Geelong who are involved in, or interested in, establishing Stand Out groups within their schools.

Roles and Responsibilities:

SOCOP members are tasked with:

• Establishing and maintaining Stand Out groups in their respective schools.
• Fostering a safe and inclusive environment for dialogue and collaboration.
• Promoting LGBTQIA+ events to the wider school community.
• Conducting biannual evaluations of Stand Out groups.
• Regularly participating in SOCOP network meetings, with prior notification in case of absence.
• Ensuring student privacy and confidentiality when sharing case studies or seeking advice.

Meetings:

Meetings are held once per school term.
