Stand Out Community of Practice (SOCOP) is an integral
component of the Social Inclusion portfolio within the Youth Development Unit providing
direct support to schools delivering Stand Out Groups within their School.
Aims:
- Facilitate knowledge exchange and support for Stand Out facilitators.
- Establish a collaborative space for troubleshooting and promoting LGBTQIA+ events.
- Provide ongoing professional development opportunities.
- Ensure the longevity and effectiveness of Stand Out groups through consistent support for school staff.
Outcomes:
- Enhanced support and understanding for LGBTQIA+ youth within participating schools.
- Strengthened professional skills and resources for Stand Out facilitators.
- Increased visibility and celebration of LGBTQIA+ events within the school community.
- Regular evaluation and improvement of Stand Out group effectiveness.
Target Group:
SOCOP is for school staff within the City of Greater Geelong who are
involved in, or interested in, establishing Stand Out groups within their
schools.
Roles and Responsibilities:
SOCOP members are tasked with:
- Establishing and maintaining Stand Out groups in their respective schools.
- Fostering a safe and inclusive environment for dialogue and collaboration.
- Promoting LGBTQIA+ events to the wider school community.
- Conducting biannual evaluations of Stand Out groups.
- Regularly participating in SOCOP network meetings, with prior notification in case of absence.
- Ensuring student privacy and confidentiality when sharing case studies or seeking advice.
Meetings:
Meetings are held once per school term.
