Gender equity

Find out what we are doing to advance gender equity in our community.

Gender equity is one of our five key health and wellbeing priorities in Our Community Plan 2021-2025. By demonstrating and promoting gender equity practices, we aim to influence better gender equality.

Gender Equality Act

Under the Victorian Gender Equality Act 2020, councils are required to conduct a workplace gender audit and publish a plan to advance gender equality in the workplace. The City of Greater Geelong's Gender Equality Action Plan 2022-25 includes actions to address equal representation, pay parity, sexual harassment, recruitment and workplace flexibility. Council also conducts gender impact assessments on all programs, polices and services that impact the community.

Women in Community Life Advisory Committee

Our Women in Community Life Advisory Committee (WiCLAC) was established to advise Council on matters relating to women's participation, representation and leadership in community life.

International Women's Day and Women in Community Life Awards

The Women in Community Life Awards recognise and celebrate the extraordinary contributions of women across the Geelong region. The awards form part of our annual International Women’s Day celebrations in March.
