We own and maintain the Safe City Camera System also known as CCTV (closed-circuit television) located in Central Geelong and other outdoor public locations including neighbourhood shopping precincts.
We own, operate and manage the Safe City Camera Network for the purpose of:
- enhancing community safety and assisting the Victoria Police and other law enforcement agencies in crime prevention
- preventing fraud and theft, for example: in council service areas where money is handled
- protecting staff/customers in public areas within and adjacent to City buildings
- providing evidence for the assessing of any claims that we are party to.
Any application for footage by the public and media must occur through the formal Freedom of Information process and will be managed in accordance with the IPP’s (Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014) and the Freedom of Information Act 1982.
Upon receipt of such request, our Freedom of Information (FOI) Officer will liaise with the CCTV Project Officer to complete a search certification within five days of receiving the request.
CCTV data will be disclosed to law enforcement or government agencies i.e. (Victoria Police, Worksafe, Environmental Protection Authority etc), in accordance with the Privacy and Data Protection Act 2014, where we are satisfied that the request is for a valid law enforcement purpose.
CCTV data is held securely for up to thirty days.
