Smart bin trials are currently underway along the Geelong Waterfront. Ultrasonic sensors have been fitted within waste bins to monitor waste volume and temperatures.
These sensors use laser technology to measure the available space left within a bin. When analysed over a period of time, this data can inform collection frequency and optimise vehicle routes, as well as provide insight into public space use.
