WiFi and enhanced broadband

Residents and visitors to Geelong can enjoy access to free WiFi in a number of locations around the City.

Our community will soon benefit from more locations, faster speeds and greater download capacities after the City was awarded a $1.5 million Grant through the Victorian Government’s Connecting Regional Communities Program to deliver 'Smarter Suburbs'. The program will deliver an enhanced Broadband trial to support business growth and innovation in the North and additional WiFi locations across Central Geelong, the Kardinia Park Precinct and Northern suburbs including Corio and Norlane. This is an important way the City is improving digital inclusion in our community.

Close to 600 residents were consulted in October 2019. The engagement findings will help to shape the plan for the roll-out. Further engagement took place in March 2020 to learn about the connectivity issues and needs of businesses.

This project has experienced delays as a result of the COVID-19 pandemic but is on track to be delivered in 2022.
