The Journey to School DVD encourages local families to walk, cycle, 'scoot' or skate to school.
The Journey To School DVD is ideal for schools to show to parents of incoming Prep students at their Prep Orientation sessions. It helps families recognise that there are other ways to get to and from school, with many benefits for students, families and the whole community.
This seven minute DVD encourages families to help reduce traffic congestion around schools and outlines the many health, safety and social benefits that can provide.
It highlights how simple it can be to choose 'active' ways of getting to and from school and explores the option of driving but parking a little away from school, then walking or riding the rest. It also provides some safety tips to help make the journey safer and more enjoyable.
The Journey to School DVD is the result of the Streets Ahead and TravelSmart project partnerships between the City of Greater Geelong, VicHealth and the Department of Transport.
It was filmed locally and features local children walking or riding to school or ‘parking part way’ - and talking about the benefits.
