Requesting A Street Light Shield

Before Application Submitted

We ask you to undertake the following before you apply for a Street Light Shield:

• Take all available steps to you, including the installation of block out curtains or blinds in the affected rooms of your home.
• Consider the effect a shield may have in reducing the overall lighting to your street and footpath.

Information Required On Application

You will need to advise us:

• Your name and contact details
• Location of the street light
• Proximity of the street light to the affected home
• Actions you have taken to limit the effects of the street light on your property

After Your Application Is Received

We will undertake day and night inspections of the location to assess:

• The topography of the area.
• Trees or buildings in the vicinity of the light.
• The current spread of light provided by the requested light and surrounding lights.
• Impact installing a shield will have on all properties, street and footpath in area.

There is a minimum three month timeframe to assess light shield requests and a minimum six months to install any approved requests.

The suitability of installing a shield is limited and dependent on the location of the street light and the need to ensure a consistent and even spread of light in the around the street light.

Not all shield requests will be approved, each are reviewed on a case-by-case basis.
