Gravel roads material trials 2024

We will be undertaking a trial with different materials in an effort to improve the way gravel roads are constructed and maintained.

We are committed to delivering top-quality services to our community by establishing and maintaining high-performance road infrastructure.

Currently, we are working to find the most suitable materials for our unsealed roads. Through extensive geotechnical research, we have identified 5 promising materials in laboratory conditions.

To gain a comprehensive understanding of how these materials perform in real-life scenarios, we need to conduct trials on road segments and closely monitor them over time. Our aim is to discover the best locally available material that can provide the highest level of service to our community.

For this purpose, we have selected a 2000-meter stretch of Evans Road between Anakie Road and Lovely Banks Road in Lovely Banks for these trials. We anticipate completing these trials by year-end and monitoring the materials' performance for the next 12 months.

The insights gained from these trials will guide our material choices for the wider network of gravel roads throughout the municipality, ensuring we continue to meet the needs of our community effectively.

Project updates will be available on this webpage.
