Johnstone Park Raingarden

An integrated water management project and increased accessibility will provide a new space to be enjoyed by Geelong’s growing residential and working population.

Project details and benefits

  • Manage stormwater by harvesting, cleaning, and storing rainwater and/or runoff for irrigation.
  • Remove stormwater pollutants through a series of terraced ponds and filtration system.
  • Provide universal access into the park via a ramp, opening it up for use by all community members.
  • More level surfaces available for people to enjoy the park.
  • Resurfaced paths will be more suitable for walking or riding across in wet weather.
  • Install a contemporary staircase that reinterprets the stairs previously located near Gheringhap Street.
  • Plant more than 150 square metres of raingarden, enhancing the lush feel of the park.

Works schedule

Works commenced 26 April 2017 and will were completed in time for the Nightjar festival in early February 2018.
