Public Realm Study

A Public Realm Framework for Central Geelong has been prepared, to ensure the city’s streets, laneways and other public places are attractive and create an inviting place for people to stay and enjoy.

Endorsed by the Task Force in December 2015, the Public Realm Framework outlines the paving materials, street furniture, street trees and landscaping to be implemented across the CBD, including key locations for public art. The Framework will guide all future capital works for the public realm in Central Geelong.

A Public Realm Strategy and Standards Manual are now being prepared, which will outline the City’s future capital works program across the city, including specifications for construction.

In addition, a survey of the current paving materials, and kerb and channel details has been undertaken.  It will enable us to measure the impact of future streetscape upgrades.

An assessment of the current street tree coverage within the City is also being undertaken, enabling us to measure the impact of greening and tree planting over time.
