Recycling plastic bags

Although the ban on single use plastic bags has been in place since the middle of last year, they continue to be the main source of contamination in the recycling bin.

In most cases they contain either rubbish or recyclables.

For safety reasons, staff at the recycling sorting facility will not open them, regardless of the contents. This means anything in plastic bags will end up in landfill.

Recycling empty plastic bags

To recycle plastic bags drop them off at specially marked bins at participating Coles and Woolworths supermarkets.
