Recycle your printer cartridges

Australian businesses recycled 1.7 million ink cartridges in 2014, bringing the total saved from landfill since 2003 to 27 million!

Cartridges 4 Planet Ark is a recycling program that provides a free, easy and environmentally-accredited way to recycle their used printer cartridges.

As cartridges are made up of a complex mix of plastics, metal, inks and toners they represent a significant investment in resources.

When they are disposed of into landfill these resources are lost. Cartridges sent to landfill can take between 450 and 1,000 years to break down!

Closing the loop

Printer cartridges collected through the program are sorted and, depending on their condition, returned to the manufacturer for reuse or dismantled, with plastics, metals, toner and ink collected and refined for recycling.

Recycled printer cartridges could be turned into aluminium, ferrous metal, stainless steel and more than six different plastic types.

They can also be used to create material that strengthens the life of asphalt used on roads, used to make park benches, fencing and garden beds and help create new products such as cartridges, pens and rulers.

Drop off your Printer cartridges

Printer cartridges can easily be dropped off for recycling in ‘Cartridges 4 Planet Ark’ collection boxes, located at all Officeworks and JB Hi-Fi stores and participating Australia Post, Harvey Norman and The Good Guys. Find your nearest participating outlet.
