War memorials and military objects in public space

There are a number of war memorials and military cultural objects within our Outdoor Collection.

Anakie District Memorial Gates

Commemorates those who fought in World Wars One and Two.

Location: Anakie Reserve in Anakie


Barwon Rowing Club War Memorial

The monument commemorates members of the Barwon Rowing Club who died in service or were killed in action during World War One.

Location: Barwon Rowing Club in South Geelong


Ceres Memorial Gates

The gates were erected by residents of the district to commemorate the soldiers who served in World War One and the district pioneers.

Location: Ceres Reserve in Ceres


Drysdale War Memorial

Commemorates the soldiers from Drysdale who died in service or were killed in action in World War One, World War Two and other campaigns.

Location: High Street in Drysdale


East Geelong War Memorial

A monument that commemorates the servicemen from the East Geelong, St Albans and Moolap districts who died in service or were killed in action in World War One.

Location: Corner of St Albans and Boundary Roads in East Geelong


Geelong and District Peace Memorial

Built to commemorate the soldiers who served in World War One, the memorial continues this role with the addition of names of service men and woman who served in every war since the Great War.

Location: Johnstone Park in Geelong


Geelong and District Vietnam Veterans` Avenue of Honour

The Avenue of Honour was unveiled in 1995 to commemorate those who served in the Vietnam War.

Geelong West War Memorial

The monument was erected by the citizens of Geelong West to commemorate those who served in World War One.

Korean War Memorial

A memorial to those who served in the Korean War dedicated by the City of Greater Geelong

Malaya Borneo Veterans Memorial

This site is dedicated to those who fell and those who served in the Singapore, Malay and Borneo conflicts 1939 – 1966.

Location: St Helen`s Park in North Geelong


North Geelong War Memorial

Commemorates the service and sacrifice of men and women of the Shire of Corio who served in the Second World War, Malaya, Korea, Borneo and Vietnam.

Ocean Grove War Memorial

Commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved.

Location: Ocean Grove Park in Ocean Grove


Portarlington Cenotaph and Field Gun

The monument commemorates those who have served in the various conflicts in which Australia has been involved. A Carr and Co 25 pounder of 1941 vintage is located adjacent.

South African War Memorial

Commemorates four men who died in the South African (Boer) War. The memorial was also erected as an historical mark of the Boer War and the Proclamation of Peace.
