The Potato Shed’s
August Morning Showtime show, Tuesday 6 August, celebrates the age-old genre of
skiffle music.
Allan James (All Shook
Up) brings his homage to all things skiffle with Does Your Chewing Gum Lose its
Flavour?
Skiffle is a genre of
folk music with influences from American folk music, blues, country, bluegrass,
and jazz.
Before the Beatles
dominated the world of popular music, John Lennon’s first band The Quarrymen
played a mix of skiffle and rock music.
But the leading
exponent of the genre was Scottish-born Lonnie Donegan. Known as the King of
Skiffle, Donegan had huge hits with songs such as My Old Man’s a Dustman and Does Your Chewing Gum Lose Its Flavour (On the Bedpost Overnight?).
Donegan influenced
everyone from The Beatles through to Brian May (Queen).
You’ll be captivated
and transported as James rolls out all the hits of skiffle.
Tickets include morning
tea.
