The Potato Shed provides a vibrant arts complex that serves as a multi-purpose arts and cultural centre for joint use by Bellarine Secondary College, St Ignatius College and the regional community.
The Potato Shed is an ideal venue for classes - dance, drama, yoga, performances, multi-arts festivals, art exhibitions, outdoor events, meetings and conferences.
The venue offers a range of spaces both indoor and out - to suit a multitude of needs.
Our history
The Potato Shed was built as a joint venture by the City of Greater Geelong, Bellarine Secondary College and the Roman Catholic Trusts Corporation (on behalf of the Catholic Regional College now St Ignatius College Geelong) with the State Government providing additional funding from the Community Support Fund. Council established a Committee of Management under Section 86 of the Local Government Act and a Development and Joint Use Agreement was signed. The venue opened on 15 March 2001.
The Potato Shed provides an extremely valuable resource for the Bellarine community. The multipurpose nature of the venue means the Potato Shed plays a significant role in the cultural, social and educational development of the community.
The reputation of the venue as a partnership model between Council/community and two secondary schools is widely admired. It is a hub of activity for all ages and is a highly valued community cultural resource. Consultation has confirmed the excellent qualities of the Potato Shed as a venue for people of all abilities.
