Animal infringements and fines

We issue animal infringements for a number of offences.

The tracking and management of local animals, while overseen by the City of Greater Geelong, is regulated by a state law, the Domestic Animals Act 1994.

Fines or infringements may be issued when pets are:

  • Wandering at large:

    • During the day

    • At night

  • Not registered

  • Registration not renewed

  • Not wearing a registration tag

A number of on-the-spot fines apply. Generally, offences relating to dogs fall into the following categories:

Offence Fine
Registration - Failure to register $330
Failure to renew registration $330
Tags - Failure to wear a registration tag $83
Wandering - Day-time $248
Wandering - Night-time $330
