Geelong Animal Welfare Society

Geelong Animal Welfare Society (GAWS) has been caring for animals in Geelong for over 50 years.

GAWS is run by dedicated staff and the facility is much more than just a 'lost dog's home'.

You can:

  • Be reunited with your lost pet
  • Drop in lost dogs or cats
  • Adopt a new cat or dog with all ages and sizes available
  • Veterinary Service, including Microchipping
  • Purchase pet products from the wide range of supplies in the main office including treats, bedding, worm and flea products, grooming products and more

Funding and fees

GAWS is not run and operated by Council and is not government-funded, the Society relies on public generousity to support the Society to shelter and rehouse unwanted animals.

Adopting a pet

All pets that you purchase through GAWS will be desexed and microchipped before you take them home.

Registering pets

In Victoria legislation requires that all dogs and cats aged three months or older must be registered with their local Council, all dogs must be microchipped prior to registration, all cats must be microchipped and desexed prior to registration.

GAWS now have the facilities to register your pet on-site during opening hours.

The dedicated staff at GAWS are fully trained to care for animals.

Staff understand how much your pet means to you and how stressful it can be when your pet goes missing.
