The overall purpose of the Play Strategy is to provide the City of Greater Geelong with a plan for the provision of well located, well designed, fun and accessible play spaces across the municipality.
We recognise that play not only contributes to a child’s health, wellbeing, education and physical, social and cognitive development, but is also an invaluable tool in the development of strong community connections.
Play helps children to learn about the world in which they live, learn how to get along with others, engage with nature, challenge themselves, learn new skills and to simply enjoy themselves.
We currently manage over 380 public play spaces and operate an additional 47 supervised early childhood centre-based play spaces.
There are two parts to the strategy as well as two appendix documents:
- Part 1 - Executive Summary, The Value of Play, Vision and Planning Principles, Existing Play Spaces in the City, Community Consultation, Analysis, Recommendations
- Part 2 - Planning and Design Guidelines, Management, Marketing and Maintenance of Play Space
- Appendix 1 - Community Consultation, City of Greater Geelong Policy Context
- Appendix 2 - Spatial Analysis and Mapping, Staged Work Plan
