Charles McCarthy Oval is a low maintenance sports ground surrounded by reasonably high-quality remnant vegetation, particularly ground layer species.
It is used on an irregular basis for AFL football training by the Portarlington Football Club and as a lower grade cricket ground by St Leonards Cricket Club.
