Parking fees - why were they increased from 1 July 2019?

The City reviews all fees and charges annually, of which there are more than 1600.

In reviewing fees and charges across the City, applicable services are benchmarked against private service providers and/or other similar local governments.

Benchmarking of parking fees includes an assessment of alternate private parking options in Central Geelong and other similar cities across Australia. The benchmarking showed that the City’s parking fees are relatively low compared to other parking options.

The benchmarking review also identified differences in some of the City’s parking fees in Central Geelong. Parking fees for similar spaces are varied and the changes made to fees attempted to address this.

The fee increases aimed to ensure that fees were more consistent, as required in the Council Fees and Charges Policy.
