‘Odyssey Geelong Year 11 and 12 Media Studies Film Festival’ is a yearly showcase of the talents of young film makers in Secondary School across Geelong, Surf Coast and the Bellarine.
Each year all secondary schools within this area, are invited to take part in Odyssey. Each school can only submit one film from Year 11 VCE Media Studies and one from Year VCE Media Studies 12, through their Media Teacher. A total of 2 films per school.
‘Odyssey Geelong Year 11 and 12 Media Studies Film Festival’ started in 2013 and is held on the first Saturday of December each year at Village Cinemas Geelong.
While Odyssey isn’t about prizes we ask the audience at screenings to vote via Mobile App on each film and award an ‘Audience Favourite’. We also award a ‘Best Film’, decided by peers, young people doing film studies and past participants.
Odyssey Film Festival is organised and funded by the City of Greater Geelong Youth Development Unit in conjunction with Media Studies Teachers, and Secondary Schools, who recognise a huge amount of talent in Geelong.
We’d also like to thank the following who supply their knowledge and time to us when needed:
- The staff at Village Cinemas Geelong
- The Australian Classification Board
Films from past Odyssey's (including winner of Best Film and Audience Favourite each year) can be found on the left. Use this as a teaching resource or view for fun.
