Baarack the Lost Sheep

Baarack the lost sheep received worldwide fame earlier this year when he was found wandering the Cobaw State Forest Victoria, in desperate need of a haircut!

The National Wool Museum will showcase the story of Baarack and his very large fleece alongside lively illustrations from local children’s book author Renee Treml and new films shot on location at Baarack’s new home, Edgar’s Mission.

Following his rescue, Baarack has been cared for at Edgar’s Mission, a not-for-profit farm sanctuary in Lancefield which caters for animals in need.

We could not even see his eyes let alone make out his ears, and the poor boy could hardly stand ~ Pam Ahern - Founder and Director

And who could blame him as the matted mess that was his fleece, complete with sticks, twigs, insects and urine, weighed in at a whopping 35.4 kilograms.

The Guinness World Record for heaviest fleece is a staggering 41.1 kilograms. This fleece now resting in the National Museum of Australia in Canberra and was taken from Chris, another wayward Merino found wandering Mulligan’s Flat in the ACT in 2015.

Baarack is believed to be around 8 years old with at least 5 years worth of fleece weighing him down. Now relieved of his fleece, Baarack is meeting up with other equally fortunate sheep who have found sanctuary at Edgar’s Mission.

Baarack's fleece will be on display at the National Wool Museum.
