One of our most loved free children’s
attractions is set to receive a refresh to ensure the play equipment is well maintained and
accessible for families visiting the Waterfront.
We’re temporarily
closing Eastern Beach Playground between
Monday 5 May to Friday 9 May for maintenance. Works will include topping up the
soft fall mulch, cleaning and rustproofing equipment and repainting all
high-use areas.
While the
playground will be fenced off, the surrounding open space area and picnic
tables will continue to be available.
The nearby Geelong Play Space on Eastern Park Circuit will also briefly close between Monday 12 May to
Wednesday 21 May to
allow for an upgrade to the perimeter fence.
This award-winning inclusive playground caters
for children of all ages and abilities and includes a Liberty Swing for those
in wheelchairs.
Deputy Mayor Ron Nelson
The City manages and maintains 300+ public playgrounds and over 60 supervised early childhood
centre-based play spaces.
We
understand the importance of providing play spaces that are safe and easily
accessible the community.
While the
brief closure of the playgrounds will be inconvenient in the short term, the
works will ensure that they are free from defects and continue to meet current
Australian Standards.
Councillor Trent
Sullivan
The works are part of a monitored playground renewal schedule
that is reassessed annually.
Eastern
Beach Playground and the Geelong Play Space are immensely popular, being just a
stone’s throw away from the beach, Geelong Botanic Gardens, The Carousel and
Waterfront cafes
We apologise
for the inconvenience these temporary closures may cause and recommend families
visit the nearby Poppy Kettle Playground at Cunningham Pier and Pevensey Park
Playground instead.
