The City of Greater Geelong is assessing its 2,400 km footpath network to collect data and rate the condition of each footpath.
Quad bike style assessment vehicles, operated by a contractor, will travel at a brisk walking pace and use cameras to capture data on the footpaths’ condition.
The images are then run through software that determines an overall condition score. The condition data captured is used to develop and generate future renewal and replacement programs.
The quad bikes will be collecting data for approximately eight weeks and will travel the entirety of the City of Greater Geelong’s footpath network.
Hazard lights and other warning devices will be in operation for pedestrian safety. The vehicles are clearly identifiable, and operators will yield where possible.
Residents can also report footpath issues that require attention online or by calling 5272 5272.

The cameras will capture images and assign condition scores that will help manage our footpath assets.
Greater Geelong has an extensive footpath network, and it is important to have accurate data on its condition.

This technology increases the consistency and accuracy of results, while being more efficient than manual inspection.
Thank you to the community for being patient while we conduct this assessment.
