The
City of Greater Geelong wishes to advise that Goldsworthy Reserve in Corio will
be closed for upgrade works between 30 September and 4 October.
The
works, which will be fully funded by the City, include repairs and replacement
of the javelin run ups and edging, and repairing delamination and vandalism on
affected areas of the running track.
A track condition report was undertaken earlier this year, and a schedule of
works was established in conjunction with the Corio Little Athletics Club.
The City of Greater Geelong worked closely with the Corio Little Athletics Club to identify a preferred date for the surfacing works, which require dry and warm weather to be completed to the highest standard.
Overflow tenants from Landy Field who have been using Goldsworthy Reserve, including athletes, coaches and clubs, have been advised of the forthcoming works and have made alternative arrangements for the closure period.
Greater
Geelong Mayor Trent Sullivan
These upgrades will have a lasting benefit for athletes across the region.
These
works will ensure the Corio Little Athletics Club and its members, as well as
school kids across Geelong and the broader athletics community will have access
to a facility that provides a safe and fit-for-purpose environment for years to
come.
It
was imperative to commence the project at the end of September and by
completing the works at this time it will also mean there is minimal impact to
the remainder of the athletics season.
Active
Spaces portfolio chair, Councillor Eddy Kontelj
These works will ensure there is minimal interruption to the athletics season.
The
upgrades at Goldsworthy Reserve are necessary and exciting for the Greater
Geelong athletics community.
Because
they are being undertaken at the end of September and start of October, the
field will be in prime condition for the start of the season.
