We wheelie need your input!

Friday, 5 July 2024

Mountain bike and BMX riders are invited to meet with the City and our trail designers and tell us what they’d like to see at the Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Mountain Bike Park, and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps in the future.

We’re developing concept plans to renew these facilities in the coming years to ensure they are functional, fit for purpose and rideable.

Our trail designers, World Trail, are focused on making the three tracks more engaging and challenging for beginner, intermediate, and advanced riders.

We are holding three sessions at these venues for riders of all ages and skill levels to have their say:

  • Stead Park Dirt Jumps, Corio – 1 - 3pm on Friday 12 July
  • The Hill Mountain Bike Park, Newtown – 10am - 12pm on Saturday 13 July
  • Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps – 1 - 3pm on Saturday 13 July

Community members are welcome to fill out our survey online before Sunday 4 August.

We encourage feedback from all riders and will be engaging with a number of stakeholders in this space, including our Youth Development team.

During consultation in 2021 for The Hill Bike Park, the riding community identified that the City’s existing mountain bike and dirt jump facilities were underused and not appealing due to their condition and functionality.

We also heard that community members want to be involved in the future designs and renewals.

Mayor Trent Sullivan

The City is committed to designing exciting and challenging trails as BMX and mountain biking increased in popularity.

I encourage riders, including young people and their parents, to help shape the concept plans for Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Bike Park and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps.

Construction works to deliver the final concept plans will be rolled out over several years, and will be funded through renewal funding, future council budgets and external grants.

Councillor Sarah Hathway

The tracks at Stead Park, The Hill and Waurn Ponds need a refresh.
Since the onset of the pandemic, the City has seen a significant increase in community members taking an interest in mountain bike and BMX riding.

By increasing the appeal of the Stead Park Dirt Jumps, The Hill Mountain Bike Park and Waurn Ponds Dirt Jumps, we hope more people will use these facilities and take part in this healthy pastime.

The concept plans will be informed by the public consultation and will be presented back to the community for a second round of engagement.
