Residents with
an interest in improving health and wellbeing in the northern Geelong growth
area are encouraged to nominate for a place on a new community liaison reference
group.
The City is
establishing the reference group for the new $61.6 million Northern Aquatic andCommunity Hub (NACH).
Construction on
the jointly funded project, adjacent the Barwon Health North site in Norlane,
began in late February.
The community liaison
reference group will engage with community representatives
Councillor
Anthony Aitken, of Windermere Ward, said the NACH was the largest ever
community infrastructure investment project to be delivered by Council.
Given the size
and importance of the facility to the community, the reference group is
essential to ensure we tap into our local knowledge, skills and experience. This will be
used to get feedback on ideas and issues, to help decide the best use of the
space and to ensure its programming meets the needs of the local
community.
Interested
community members are encouraged to visit the Have Your Say page for more information and to complete an
expression of interest.
Nominations are
being taken until 20 May.
Fellow
Windermere Ward Councillor Kylie Grzybek said the reference group would help
Council create the NACH as a regional-level venue for health and wellbeing.
We encourage
all interested representatives to put their names forward, so this vital new
facility can have the biggest impact.
The Northern
Aquatic and Community Hub is being delivered by the City of Greater Geelong, in
partnership with the Victorian and Australian governments.
It will be a
vibrant space for leisure and recreation activities, cultural and health
programs, and community events, featuring:
- 1000 square metres of multi-purpose community space
- A 25-metre pool, hydrotherapy pool, Learn to Swim pool, water play area and waterslide
- Spa, sauna, and steam room
- A centrally located café
- A gymnasium, program rooms and occasional care facilities
- Consulting suites; and
- Expanded car parking spaces, landscaping, and aesthetic improvements to Corio Library.
