Boorai Centre to remain closed

Friday, 10 July 2020

The Boorai Centre in Ocean Grove will remain closed on Monday and Tuesday next week, following a confirmed case of coronavirus (COVID-19).

The Department of Health and Human Services (DHHS) advised the City last night that a child who attended the centre on Thursday 2 July has contracted COVID-19.

The child did not display any symptoms and was not visibly unwell on the day.

Families with children who were scheduled to attend the centre today were informed of the closure last night and have this afternoon been notified of its continuing closure.

City staff were also contacted and will not be attending the centre.

The City has today undertaken a deep, environmental clean of the facility and assessed further control measures.

The integrated child and family centre will be closed on Monday and Tuesday, to ensure it is fully compliant with the DHHS’s COVID-19 health and safety protocols.

The City is continuing to provide assistance to DHHS, which is responsible for the tracing of all close contacts.

City employees identified to have come into contact with the affected child will be tested and will remain at home during a quarantine period determined by the DHHS.

Greater Geelong Chief Executive Officer Martin Cutter

The health and safety of our residents, visitors and employees is our highest priority. We have shut the centre to allow for a complete and thorough clean and will not re-open until it has been deemed safe by the DHHS. We are working closely with the DHHS and providing all of the information and support they require.
