Eastern Beach closed due to poor air quality

Monday, 6 January 2020

Following advice from the Environmental Protection Agency Victoria and Life Saving Victoria, the City today locked the Eastern Beach children’s pool and cancelled lifeguard patrolling along the swimming beach.

Community members are urged to avoid swimming in this area until it officially reopens.

Smoke from the east Gippsland fires has impacted air quality across Victoria, leading EPA Victoria to advise those with sensitivity to air pollution to avoid physical activity outdoors.

Eastern Beach will remain closed pending further advice from EPA Victoria.

Life Saving Victoria has also closed other patrolled beaches to protect the health of their lifeguards.

Updates regarding Eastern Beach will be posted online at www.geelongaustralia.com.au.

Up to date information regarding air quality can be found at www.emergency.vic.gov.au or via the Vic Emergency app.
