Open, accessible data has been made possible through a national Smart Cities and Suburbs grant. Our Smart City team has created the Geelong Data Exchange to ensure everyone can access, use and share data the city collects.
When citizens, businesses, entrepreneurs, students and the technology community have access to robust data it can lead to new ideas, innovations and solutions.
The Geelong Tech School is building innovative learning programs for partner secondary schools to teach students how to understand and use data. Having access to local, real-world data via the platform makes for engaging and inspirational classroom activities. Data literacy also teaches analytical thinking and creative insight.
Organisations are encouraged to share data to the platform. When data sets come together, new insights can be drawn and new solutions can be found. Open data is an integral way Geelong is becoming a Smart City.
You can find it at Geelong Data Exchange.
