Geelong to host White Night in 2018

Friday, 3 November 2017
The enormously popular White Night festival is coming to Geelong in October 2018.

White Night Geelong will be held on Saturday 13 October 2018, with more details to be announced closer to then.

Minister for Tourism and Major Events John Eren made the announcement today, alongside the event director David Atkins.

The all-night cultural festival started in Paris and has been held in cities around the globe, with Melbourne and Ballarat drawing large crowds as the only Australian host cities.

White Night Geelong will take over city streets, parklands, laneways, public spaces and cultural institutions as the city comes alive with spectacular projections, lighting displays and entertainment.

With key Revitalising Central Geelong projects - the Malop Street Green Spine, the Laneways Project and Johnstone Park Raingarden – almost complete, there will be plenty of great destinations that can be activated as part of the after dark event.

White Night Geelong will also complement homegrown event Geelong After Dark held annually in May, which continues to grow in popularity.

Quote from City of Greater Geelong CEO Kelvin Spiller

“After seeing how enormously successful White Night has been in both Melbourne and Ballarat, we’re absolutely thrilled it’s now coming to Geelong.”

“Geelong is an ideal destination for internationally significant events. White Night will be a fantastic addition to our busy major events calendar and I know the community will get right behind it.”

“Events like this are a key part of delivering our community-led vision for a clever and creative city region.”

Quote from David Atkins, White Night Artistic Director

“Geelong has a rich history informed by its indigenous heritage and its European settlement and White Night will pay tribute to both. My team and I are inspired and honoured to be able to work with Visit Victoria and the Geelong community on delivering this ground breaking event.”
