Resource Recovery Centre fees

Tuesday, 15 August 2017

We would like to provide information to the community about the fee structure at our Geelong Resource Recovery Centre and Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre.

The gate fee depends on the content of the load. For example, scrap metal and excess recyclables can be dropped off free of charge, so if whitegoods and cardboard are separated in the load and unloaded at the appropriate recycling area – these are not included in the fee.

The Geelong Resource Recovery Centre has a three tonne gross limit for access to the site. At the Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre the amount charged for a small truckload of waste is determined by its weight. So a truckload of bricks and rubble is going to weigh – and therefore cost – more than a truckload of tree branches.

Every fee determination transaction at our centres is recorded to ensure consistency and we use audio and visual technology to monitor each load at our Geelong Resource Recovery Centre.

We are about to run an education campaign so that people have a clearer understanding of how our fees are determined.

The following items can be dropped off free of charge at our Resource Recovery Centres (domestic quantities only):

  • recyclables (clean cardboard/paper, aluminium/steel cans, rigid plastic containers/drink bottles, milk cartons and glass bottles/jars)
  • whitegoods (fridges, ovens, dishwashers, dryers, etc)

  • televisions, computer and electrical items

  • barbeque gas cylinders

  • car batteries

  • scrap metal

  • hot water services

  • tools

  • paint (up to 30 litres) and paint tins*

  • household batteries*

  • car or machine oil*

  • fluorescent lights*

*These items can only be dropped off at our Geelong Resource Recovery Centre (and not our Drysdale Resource Recovery Centre).
