Stormwater drain in Pembroke Drive, Ocean Grove

Friday, 21 April 2017

The following statement was issued to media regarding a query about a stormwater drain in Pembroke Drive, Ocean Grove.  The response was attributed to Director City Services Will Tieppo:

The City is currently responding to more than 140 requests to investigate and clean blocked stormwater drains and pits.  Pembroke Drive is included as one of these investigations and is planned to be checked on Monday, 24 April 2017.

The recent storm events that occurred in Ocean Grove including Pembroke Drive were such that the stormwater volumes exceeded the capacity of the underground pit and pipe network.

The City  is currently undertaking a project (currently programmed for the 17/18 financial year) to improve the southern drain channel linking with this open drain at Bonnyvale Road.

The next stage of the project is to investigate upgrade options in the wetland area on the east of Bonnyvale Road to improve the open main drain network’s high volume flows during these intense rainfall events.
