Most of us can remember being told a story. It was a special time when we were invited to go on a journey.
Storytelling opens us to a world where a shift in consciousness occurs, we become centred and connected. It is a simple and beautiful way to build belonging, harmony and identity.
The My Story Project is one of the City’s key events in the annual celebration of International Day of People with Disability. It is an opportunity for people with a lived experience of disability and mental health challenges to find their individual voice and ‘tell their own story in their own way’. To ensure that the project was inclusive to all, stories have been told through words, paintings, digital imagery, photography, sound, music and film.
The project supported participants to connect and develop their storytelling skills through a 12-week mentorship program. It also provided an opportunity for others to share their skills and expertise.
