Acknowledgement to Country

Council formally agreed to begin Council meetings with an Acknowledgement to Country and to arrange Welcome to Country performances at civic events.

Acknowledgement to Country (and Welcome to Country) is a sign of awareness of and respect for the traditional Aboriginal people of the land on which a meeting or event is being held. It can either be informal or formal and acknowledges the Aboriginal people of the land and can be performed by a non-Aboriginal person.

Council acknowledges Wadawurrung Traditional Owners of this land and all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander People who are part of the Greater Geelong community today.
