The final stage of the Leisurelink 50-metre pool redevelopment will begin next month.
Construction of the centrepiece tiled concrete pool is progressing well, with the new and improved aquatic facilities expected to open in June.
There will be some service changes as the finishing touches are applied to the project, which is delivering a new 50-metre pool and upgrades to the waterslide, splash park and concourse.
To ensure key works can be safely carried out by contractor AW Nicholson, all aquatic facilities will be closed on 11 April and 12 April.
From 13 April, the warm water pool and spa will reopen.
The majority of Webstar Swim School’s program will relocate to the warm water pool, with the Learn to Swim and toddler pools to remain shut for a scheduled seven weeks.
All aquatic facilities will again be unavailable for four days at the end of May, before the tiled 50-metre concrete pool is opened for the first time.
Leisurelink will inform members and the community of any availability impacts during the major works period, to enable aquatic users to plan their visits.
Users are encouraged to consider visiting Kardinia Aquatic Centre – which is now open year-round – or another facility if scheduling clashes arise.
Cr Peter Murrihy, chair of the Leisure and Recreation portfolio, said the investment in Leisurelink would significantly improve the much-loved community facility.
“The new 50-metre pool will serve the community for many years to come, so we thank everyone for their patience as the work is carried out.
“It will enable us to provide the best facilities for our residents to learn to swim, stay safe around the water, and to undertake vital rehabilitation and hydrotherapy.”
