We have assisted the
business community with expanded al fresco and streetscape activations, to help the sector's recovery from the COVID-19 pandemic.
Greater Geelong is enjoying an outdoor dining boom.
The City encouraged the open-air dining culture by
installing expanded service areas in multiple hospitality precincts.
The first was installed in The Terrace, Ocean Grove in early December 2020, before it was rolled out in Geelong and Geelong West from March 2021.
We have also waived all outdoor dining fees and worked
closely with businesses to quickly activate their outdoor spaces.
The initiatives were supported by funding from the Victorian Government's
Outdoor Eating and Entertainment Package.
Outdoor dining options
There are more than 170 venues in Greater Geelong offering
outdoor dining, hosting a total of more than 2060 chairs.
Al fresco dining has exploded during the COVID-19 pandemic,
with venues battling indoor density limits embracing the chance to safely
expand outdoors.
More than 80 temporary permits for new or extended al fresco
areas have been issued by the City since September 2020.
