This year we’re celebrating Inclusion Week in the lead up to International Day of People with Disability by promoting a program of free events from Monday 22 November to Thursday 10 December 2021.
International Day of People with Disability (IDPWD) is held on 3 December each year. It is sanctioned by the United Nations and is celebrated worldwide. It aims to increase public awareness, understanding and acceptance of people with disability and mental health challenges, and to celebrate their achievements and contributions.
Each year, the City celebrates IDPWD from late November to early December. We partner with local organisations and individuals to promote a range of events, activities, celebrations and exhibitions that take place across Greater Geelong.
Our two key events are the Geelong Awards for People with Disability and the My Story Project. These events are an opportunity to recognise individuals with disability and mental health challenges who are doing outstanding work in the community, to highlight their skills and talents and to acknowledge our region’s inclusive culture.
Due to COVID-19 restrictions, all events this year will be presented online.
