The surf beaches of Point Lonsdale, Ocean Grove, Barwon Heads and Breamlea are the home of the endangered Hooded Plover.
You would think a black, white and red bird would stand out on the beach, but these little birds are the masters of disguise!
The Hooded Plover or 'Hoodie' spends it's whole life on the beach and is one of Australia's most threatened birds.
We're working with community volunteers and Birdlife Australia to protect the birds.
Don't confuse your plovers...
Hooded Plovers are small and won't swoop you like the more common and sometimes objectionable Spur-winged Plover.
