Which grant is best for my event?

Refer to this table to determine which grant best suits your event.

It is a guide only and the examples should not be considered exhaustive. All applications must respond to the stated objectives and eligibility criteria of each grant.

Community Events Grants
Support for moderate sized (300+ attendees) events promoted to the general public which contribute to an inclusive and diverse events calendar, provide opportunities for participation and bring economic benefits to the City of Greater Geelong.
  • food and beverage
  • regional, state or national championships
  • public holidays, for example: ANZAC Day, Christmas, New Year’s Eve
  • events highlighting local industries.
  • festivals: music, film, arts, children.
Healthy and Connected Communities Grants
Projects category:
For events, which foster and embrace an inclusive community culture and community connectedness.
  • sports clubs or community groups celebrating a milestone anniversary.
  • community workshops or forums.
  • multicultural celebrations.
  • religious and spiritual events
  • community celebrations.

*celebrations and religious/spiritual events open to the public with an expected attendance of 300+ should apply to Community Events Grants.

Environmental Sustainability Grants
Projects Category:
Support for events that enhance our natural environment and drive environmental sustainability actions across the Geelong region.
  • open days
  • expos and showcases
  • community education.
Arts Projects Grants
Support to cultivate the strength, diversity and vitality of our City’s arts and cultural ecosystem; engage the whole community in our City’s cultural life; and celebrate our City’s distinct, diverse and evolving culture.
  • performances
  • theatre productions
  • public experiences
  • launches
  • openings
  • workshops
  • panel discussion.

Events not funded - ineligible project types
  • events that are ongoing, regular activities of a venue approved under a licence/tenancy agreement, for example: monthly markets, seasonal sporting events or other activities.
  • fundraising events, for example: fetes, markets, fun runs, concerts, competitions where the primary purpose is to fundraise for a charity or cause.
  • prizes, gifts, awards or sponsorship costs such as trophies medals money and vouchers
  • events that are the core purpose of a business.
