Friends and volunteers

Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens Inc is a voluntary group that supports the Gardens.

Role of Friends

The Friends mission is to conserve, protect and enhance the Gardens and Eastern Park. The Friends volunteers work in partnership to support the City of Greater Geelong.

Friends volunteer activities

The Friends is both a voluntary and a social organisation. New members are always welcome to join in the camaraderie that comes from working and socialising together in support of the beautiful Geelong Botanic Gardens.

Volunteer opportunities include:

  • growers in the Friends Nursery
  • librarians
  • perennial border and rose gardeners
  • tour guides and discovery table
  • the Friends’ newsletter 'Jubaea'
  • committee members

Some members join the Botanic Art School which holds tutored classes and exhibitions.

The Friends have a program of social and fundraising events including plant sales.

Visit the Friends of Geelong Botanic Gardens website for more information.

Friends support of the garden

The Friends have a long history of volunteering and fund raising activities to support their aims.  The Friends support the delivery of the Gardens Education program contributing $10,000 annually.

The Friends also continue to build their Gift Fund, receiving tax-deductable donations to be used specifically for Gardens projects.
