Laser Masters World Championship

Lasers are a high profile Olympic sailing single handed one design class. The Masters division (for competitors over the age of 35) has the largest and most social competitor following.

This event will attract sailors from all corners of the world, who are interested in competing while enjoying an international holiday.

The Masters demographic typically sees most competitors travel with partners and family, enjoying the local tourism attractions and extending their stay beyond the event days.

In past years, this event has attracted up to 500 entrants.

Being in the Southern Hemisphere, we have estimated a realistic competitor number for the 2020 event is approximately 350 entrants.

In addition to the Worlds event, there will be a lead in Laser Masters National Championship, which will take place from Friday 13 March – Wednesday 18 March 2020.

This means that any interstate or international participants who are competing in the Worlds event will arrive in Geelong a week earlier to also participate in the National Championship.

With the Laser Masters demographic and expected extended stays, it is estimated that economic benefit for Victoria will be approximately $1,862,325.
