Senior Project Engineer

Permanent Full Time | Band 7

The Senior Project Engineer plays a leading role in the successful delivery of civil construction projects across the City.

You will have end-to-end project management responsibility of assigned projects ranging in size and complexity.  You will prepare project budgets, programs, OH&S and quality documentation, manage stakeholders, mitigate risks and evaluate output and performance with a strong commercial focus.

You have a tertiary qualification in civil engineering with extensive experience and understanding of civil engineering construction practices.  You are strong in all facets of project management, in particular planning, scheduling and risk management. You have exceptional people management skills and the ability to build productive partnerships with a range of stakeholders.

Health and Amenity Officer

Temporary Full Time | Band 5

This position will provide a technical support and investigations service for the City’s Amenity Protection function to ensure community compliance to public health and wellbeing legislation.

You will assist with the administration of applicable acts, regulations and local laws, which includes investigating complaints received in relation to the nuisance provisions of the Health Act and Council's Neighbourhood Amenity Local Law provisions.  You will also assist in investigating complaints and prepare the relevant documentation for legal proceedings.

You have demonstrated knowledge of the relevant legislation, and the ability to clearly explain legislation to and educate members of the public.  You can interact effectively with our diverse community and are known for your communication and negotiation skills.  You have good investigation and problem solving skills, and are methodical in your follow up and escalation of issues.  You are also highly organised and have the ability to administer varied processes to meet set timeframes.

This is a temporary full-time maternity leave position for approximately 12 months.

Construction Labourer

Permanent Full Time | Band 3

Our Construction Driver/Labourers work in teams to deliver a broad range of road, drainage and civil construction projects.  You will perform manual tasks, operate a range of plant and equipment, work safely, and interact with the public.

You have a Heavy Truck Licence and great skills in road and drainage construction projects.  You have demonstrated skills in safe work practices and the ability to safely perform manual work, including lifting weights.  You are an enthusiastic and positive team member, who can role model and promote our values and communicate with the community in a professional manner.

Senior Advisor – Strategic Resource Recovery & Waste Services

Permanent Full Time | Band 7 Annualised Salary

Our Environment & Waste Department is responsible for building a sustainable City by ensuring efficient resource use and recovery, protection of our natural resources, and development of a sustainable built environment.  The department looks after the City’s waste and resource recovery programs including the residential kerbside collection, transfer stations and resource recovery centres.

This position is responsible for the development and implementation of a range of resource recovery and waste strategies and programs. You will work closely with key stakeholders to ensure that Geelong is an environmentally sustainable region.  You will develop strategies and translate them into operational plans and actionable goals, and provide high level of advice to inform long-term decision making. 

You have extensive experience in resource recovery, waste services and/or environmental sustainability and program delivery, from both a local government strategic and statutory perspective.   You are also highly experienced in developing and implementing integrated environmental and/or resource recovery and waste strategies, policies, services, and other management programs.

You have excellent facilitation skills,  including the ability to manage multi-stakeholder engagement and consultation. Project, contract, and financial management also forms part of your key competencies.

The successful candidate will be offered a competitive salary package with vehicle option.

Senior Statutory Planner

Permanent Part Time | Band 7

This position facilitates the assessment and issue of permits and approvals on a range of development across the municipality.

You will provide clients with a professional advisory service, represent the City in public forums and legal proceedings and play a key role in community education on various statutes, legislation and local laws. You will also coach and mentor junior professionals and cultivate strong working relationships with other City departments.

You have a tertiary qualification in town planning or urban studies (or related field) and extensive experience in a local government town planning environment. You have a thorough understanding of the operations of local government, the Victorian planning system and the general legal process within Victoria, with excellent analytical and investigative skills. Your background includes mentoring junior colleagues, resolving conflict, and successfully managing competing demands and priorities.

This is a permanent part time position working 38 hours per fortnight.

Urban Designer

Temporary Full Time | Band 7

This position provides high quality strategic urban design and project management to the City, and offers an opportunity for a dynamic professional to impact and shape major urban renewal projects.

You will collaborate across the organisation and work closely with planning professionals to provide strategic, creative and spatial design thinking. Your expertise will contribute to strategies, masterplans, structure plans, planning policy and projects that shape the City.

You have a relevant tertiary qualification in a built environment/design profession, and extensive practical experience in urban design, preferably within the Local Government environment.    Your experience has developed your outstanding skills and knowledge in urban design principles, renewal strategies, and policy.   You can manage several tasks simultaneously, and meet deadlines/budget commitments to meet or exceed client expectations, and work effectively within multi-disciplinary teams to resolve problems.

Senior Project Officer

Temporary Full Time | Band 7

This position will be responsible for implementing the Central Geelong Action Plan (Council) and the Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan (State) by delivering projects that transform Central Geelong into a smart, thriving 21st century city.

This position will prepare and implement strategies, policies, guidelines and plans which improve the quality of the urban environment and facilitate investment. This position will work across Council and with external agencies to engender support for the Central Geelong Action Plan and the Revitalising Central Geelong Action Plan and the initiatives delivered through its implementation.

You have industry experience in urban or strategic planning, urban design and/or  infrastructure policy/planning/delivery, supported by a minimum Bachelor degree relevant to the role.   Your background includes developing and implementing communications and engagement plans and autonomously managing complex projects. You have highly developed analytical and investigative skills, plus strong communication and negotiation skills.

This is a temporary full-time maternity leave position for 6 months.

You will investigate and evaluate development applications to determine compliance with relevant legislation, ensure applications are dealt with in the prescribed time limits, and work with your team to deliver a coordinated and responsive service. You will prepare correspondence, respond to public enquiries, and assist with necessary legal action.

You have relevant experience in local government town planning, backed up by a tertiary qualification in town planning or urban studies, expert theoretical and practical knowledge, and the ability to interpret town planning legislation.  You have an awareness of current trends and issues affecting town planning, and are known for your analytical and problem solving skills. You have excellent organisational skills and can organise your own time to achieve targets and deadlines.

Building Compliance Officer

Permanent Full Time | Band 5

This position works within our Facilities Maintenance Unit to undertake the City’s annual essential safety measures audit and assist in the implementation and delivery of our building maintenance programs.

You will be responsible for the annual audit and producing the audit report for all building assets. You will also respond to maintenance requests, estimate costs and works, carry out inspections and supervise contractors and tradespeople.

You have some experience with essential safety measures and reporting, and/or demonstrated experience and knowledge in a similar role. Your knowledge also includes asbestos management, building heritage and the use of asset management systems. You have the ability to implement OH&S policies and regulations, and supervise and negotiate with tradespeople and contractors. Excellent computer skills and an eye for detail is also required.

This position participates in an out of hours call out roster (approximately 5 weeks per year).

Magic Meter Elves

Our Magic Meter Elves work throughout the Christmas period greeting motorists and providing cheer to residents, traders and visitors in the Central Geelong area. You will be an ambassador for Central Geelong Marketing and play a key role in making a trip into the Central Geelong a pleasant and memorable one.

To be chosen as an Elf, you need to show us you are the three E’s – energetic, enthusiastic and entertaining. You also need strong customer service skills, the ability to communicate with a diverse range of people, and a high level of self-motivation.  Previous experience in acting or promotions will be highly regarded. 

You must be available for a rotating roster working days and evenings Monday to Saturday, from 10 November to 23 December 2017. Applicants must have or be willing to obtain an Employee Working with Children Check prior to commencement.
