Council general elections are held every four years.
The next Council general election is Saturday 26 October 2024.
Elections are run to ensure that Councillors are democratically
elected by the community.
Council elections are conducted by the Victorian Electoral Commission.
Ward Structure
The Minister for Local Government announced on 15 February 2024 that there will be 11 single-councillor Wards for the 2024 General Elections.
The names for the 11 wards are Barrabool Hills
Ward, Charlemont Ward, Cheetham Ward, Connewarre Ward, Corio Ward, Deakin Ward,
Hamlyn Heights Ward, Kardinia Ward, Leopold Ward, Murradoc Ward, and You Yangs
Ward.
Postal election
The Geelong Council elections are held via postal voting with ballot material sent to voters in October 2024.
Election period
The Election Period commences on Tuesday 17 September 2024 and concludes at 6:00pm on Saturday 26 October 2024.
