The House is a vibrant, cooperatively managed artist-run initiative (ARI) and not-for-profit organisation based in Geelong.
Our primary mission is to foster a rich and inclusive community of artists and art enthusiasts at all skill levels, bound by their shared love for creative expression.
Our principal activities revolve around providing an accessible and approachable space for artists to practise their craft, run workshops, collaborate with others, and engage with the broader Geelong community.
We also organise, run, and advertise a variety of community art events, including workshops, craft sessions, exhibitions, and discussion groups. For example, our current monthly events program includes open craft night, miniature and diorama painting, fabric and thread art, electronic art, and other special interest art groups.
As part of our social mission, a key objective of The House is to provide a welcoming space where people with less exposure to art can come and engage with creative and artistic endeavours, even if it is for the first time. It provides a supportive atmosphere for people to engage with the arts, learn new skills, connect with creative individuals, and explore their own artistic interests. Through workshops, social events, and exhibitions, this space fosters personal growth, community building, and a deeper appreciation for the transformative power of art.
We operate next door to our strategic partner, Creative Geelong, along with other grassroots artist initiatives.
Our members are all united by their interest in art and creative practice, and they provide the volunteer team to deliver our events program. Our members represent a wide variety of artistic forms, from traditional and digital drawing to jewellery making, diorama building, miniature model making, poetry, photography, and electronic art, which enable us to deliver a diverse events program.
