Kim Doherty produces unique, hand-made textiles to wear, for soft furnishings, and art pieces for your interior spaces.
It's the tactile nature of textiles that has so much appeal for Kim. To create things which cry out to be touched is very satisfying. From the fine silks and wools employed to produce her signature, award-winning hand-woven scarves, to the array of other materials such as wire, fishing line & found objects which are knitted, woven or melded to create art pieces and jewellery.
Her practice encompasses a very broad range of work, including cushions, either made from her hand screen printed fabrics, or embroidered with her designs; hand-woven scarves and shawls; bags; jewellery; Art pieces, and a range of clothing and accessories embroidered with distinctive Celtic designs.
Since graduating from RMIT in 1994, having completed studies in Studio Textiles, Kim has participated in exhibitions, taken numerous commissions & shown her work in a variety of ways. She has continued to develop her passion for all things textile, and experiments with the innumerable materials that can be employed using textile techniques.
What is really important to Kim is to be able to share her absolute passion for her work and practice with you, in your life. Kim has a deep personal connection with every one of her pieces, which is what she strives to share and explore with you.
Kim's philosophy encompasses beauty and form, and accessibility for all. It's a constant evolution as new ideas develop into finished pieces. The possibilities are endless.
