About Stretch Kontelj
Describe yourself
I am driven, thorough and hardworking. I value honesty and trustworthiness. I have extensive experience in business, academia and law. I have a long history of community involvement, particularly in local government and in supporting ethnic communities, for which I was awarded the Order of Australia Medal in 2001 and the Centenary Medal in 2003.
Why did you run for council?
I ran for Council to add my passion and skills to the much-needed CBD revitalisation program. I also heard and related strongly to the community's call for a ‘back to basics’ focus for Council.
Top three areas of focus during your term
- Back to basics focus on core Council services of roads, footpaths, curbs and drains.
- CBD revitalisation.
- Help Geelong to flourish and prosper.
What does a ‘clever and creative’ Geelong region mean to you?
Clever and creative means to rethink how things are being done and to create a more cost-effective, efficient Council that can meet the needs of its citizens.
Favourite thing about Greater Geelong?
I love the parks, the river environs, our bays, beaches and waterfront. Pakington Street and the hospitality precinct in Little Malop Street are wonderful – we need more vibrant havens like these in our CBD.
