About Andrew Katos

Describe yourself

I am a lifelong Geelong resident and graduated with a Bachelor of Commerce from Deakin University in Waurn Ponds. For the past 23 years, I’ve been happily married to my wife, Vicki, and together we are raising our four sons. With 20 years of experience running my own business, Katos Fish Supply, I understand the challenges of small business ownership. I also served for eight years as the state Member for South Barwon and have spent the last six years in sales with William Adams Caterpillar and now Rex Gorell Nissan.

Why did you run for council?

I ran for local government as I believe that the previous council had lost focus on its core responsibilities being the basic three Rs – roads, rubbish and rates. Council needs to get back to basics and concentrate on what matters to local communities.

Top three areas of focus during your term

  1. Implement a rates freeze and maintain affordable rates.
  2. Focus Council on its core activities – roads, rubbish and rates.
  3. Maintain and upgrade local roads and council infrastructure.

What does a ‘clever and creative’ Geelong region mean to you?

Geelong’s ability to continually reinvent itself in the face of adversity which has seen it transform from its industrial base into a modern eclectic city.

Favourite thing about Greater Geelong?

That’s easy – the Geelong Football Club!
