About Anthony Aitken

Describe yourself

Born and raised in Corio, educated at Deakin University, I am proud to say I come from the northern suburbs of Geelong.
I am also a person living with a disability. I am deaf, but with the assistance of a wonderful Australian invention, I hear with a cochlear implant.

Why did you run for council?

To be a strong and passionate voice for Corio and Norlane.
To hold the bureaucracy to account and ensure ratepayers get value for their money.
To make sure Corio and Norlane receive a fair share of funding and services from Council.
To work hard and help others especially the most vulnerable members of our community when I can.

Top three areas of focus during your term.

  1. Focus on government policy, advocacy, programs and cost barriers to address the entrenched lack of access to resources (ie: health and wellbeing, housing, transport, education) in our northern suburbs.
  2. An indoor sports and entertainment centre in Geelong.
  3. Develop solutions for many issues, but in particular: Osborne House; City Hall; Geelong West Town Hall; Geelong motoring and industry history; lack of community Indoor courts in the North and the Bellarine and a greyhound-dedicated dog park in Geelong.

What does a ‘clever and creative’ Geelong region mean to you?

The Geelong community are consulted regularly and are encouraged to think differently about their future.

Favourite thing about Greater Geelong?

Our lifestyle, environment and access to education and employment opportunities is unmatched in Australia, we are Australia's best regional city.
