Public protection and street occupation permits

When building work or other work being carried requires precautionary measures to be installed on City land, you will require a report and consent and/or a Street/Footpath Occupation Permit.

Examples of why you would need this could include:

  • placing plant and equipment such as scissor lifts, excavators or concrete pumps on City land
  • using cranes including support equipment, vehicles and franner cranes on City land
  • erecting hoarding, temporary fencing, gantry, scaffolding or site shed on City land
  • creation of a construction zone on City land
  • small works areas such as using ladders and mobile scaffolding on City land
  • creation of a work zone which is used during a specific period of time.

Public protection measures over the street alignment

If a building permit is required for the work being carried out, the relevant building surveyor will determine when protection measures are required to protect the safety of the public.

You will need a Report and Consent from us if the proposed protection measures are required to be installed over the street alignment.

If the proposed protection measures are approved then a Street/footpath Occupation permit will then be required.
